Greatness begins with awareness.

Life lessons from India

Last summer I had the opportunity to travel to India with my husband, Alan to spend several weeks at an Ayurvedic clinic for our health and well-being.  Ayurvedic is a type of ancient, Indian medicine.

I was reviewing the blog we wrote from our last trip and thought it would be fun to share two of my favorite posts.  The first one was written amongst great giggles over dinner with other clinic guests.  The second one was written in a more serious tone, as I reflected on the things I had learned about myself on the trip.

We will be blogging again this trip.  You can follow us at:

Ten Things to Know About Life in India

Here is a fun list of things we came up with among much laughter! Do write if you need more explanation. Life in India is SO different than life as we know it in the US.

  • Shoes are not necessary.
  • A scooter can be used as the family car.
  • Scooters and motorcycles can be driven barefoot.
  • Cows, dogs and cats roam the streets without any supervision or ownership.
  • Yes doesn’t always mean yes; it means we heard you, we don’t necessarily agree.
  • Tomorrow means at least three days.
  • Soon means we have no idea.
  • Horns are used instead of brakes.
  • You can drive on both sides of the road; just make sure your horn works.
  • The rule of three – runs the country. It goes like this:
If anything doesn’t work the first time, it isn’t a problem. You have to try it three times and
complain three times to get any action. And it won’t be fixed tomorrow! This is certain!

Ten Things I Learned About Myself in India

  • My life is so much better when I spend my days with Alan.
  • I am not as independent as I often think.
  • My parent’s spirits travelled with me and have shared much of the adventure with me.
  • I miss my kid’s humor and presence.
  • I miss cooking my choice of healthy foods.
  • I am thankful I have had the opportunity to grow up and live in the USA.
  • I am thankful I learned a religion that worships one God, not idols.
  • I love my life and want to ensure I cherish it at home.
  • I love meeting new interesting people.
  • I can heal my body on many levels through many different types of experiences.

I am looking forward to this year’s humor and life lessons.
