The Kolbe A Index quantifies a person’s natural mental energy. The index reveals why certain types of actions give us tremendous energy, while other tasks can strip us of energy and engagement. When we work using the mental energy that engages us; we thrive and produce wonderful results with ease and joy. Conversely, when we work against our mental energy we become exhausted and can produce inferior results.
The Kolbe B Index gives individuals the opportunity to review what type of mental energy they need to do their job – their self-expectations. The closer the results between an individual’s A and B Index, the better fit the job is for that person’s innate needs, and he or she can produce greater results over a long period of time without exhaustion.
Finding a Natural Balance
Scott, a coaching client, found that he had a large disparity between his A and B Index results, revealing the deep mental exhaustion he was experiencing at work. Scott’s A Index results revealed that he collects information and then uses it to quickly create innovative approaches. He needs in-depth challenges. However, his B Index results told us he was trying to do his job very differently. He was working at a much slower pace; avoiding new ideas and attempting to create systematized solutions.
Scott put the Kolbe Concept to work the next day. Scott immediately understood why he had been feeling so depleted at work. He recognized that his happiness, fulfillment and work results were critical to ensuring that he had a powerful outlet for his natural mental energy every day. He explained to his bosses that he would need more challenges on the job to make it a better fit for his strengths and explored ways to better serve him and the organization. His results improved, as did his satisfaction and energy levels.
